Minutes, August 4, 2008
Attending: Cindy Dude, Peggy Gilsdorf, Dale
Langer, Mark LaJoie, Tom Bonifas, Michelle Kohl, Ann Conner, Susan Beitle,
Carol Beckman, Karl Lackler, Tammy Lombardo, Julie Lacayo, Dave Poling,
Felix Maes.
Opening
Cindy, sitting in for Terry, who is
on vacation, called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
Treasurer’s Report
Dave will count many one
dollar bills. Dave said that everyone is paid up for Camp A.
Dave hopes to send out Scout account information, but will wait until
concession stand money is posted.
New Scouts
No report.
Advancement
No report.
Merit
Badge Coordinator
Tammy reported. They’re working on the Sports
merit badge and Personal Fitness tonight. Carol Beckman plans to
work on Hiking and Peggy Gilsdorf will start Citizenship in the Community
on August 25. Scouts working on Personal Fitness should meet at 6:00
at Stratton Open Space before the hike on August 11.
Boards of Review
Karl reported that things
are moving. Younger Scouts are achieving Second Class and First
Class. Karl hopes to recruit some new parents for boards.
Hospitality
No report.
Popcorn
Ann reported. Council has some
meeting scheduled in September.
Training
Ann reported. She went to the
new Scout office. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through
Friday. Many classes are scheduled for the fall. New Leader
Essentials and Powderhorn, along with Youth Protection are
available. John Combs is leading Introduction to Outdoor Leader
Skills. Contact Ann if you’d like more information on any training
opportunity. Ann would like a list of leaders and what training they
have already completed. Cindy suggested contacting Amber.
Chaplain’s Aide
Carol reported. One
Scout is working on Ad Altare Dei. Once Scouts who are Catholic
start high school, they can work on Pope Pius XII. Carol hopes to
start a group soon. She made the usual pitch for religious
emblems. On Saturday, October 18, the diocesan Catholic Committee on
Scouting is hosting a retreat for Scouts working on religious
emblems. Sessions for the Catholic and the Protestant medals for Boy
Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts will be available.
Publicity
Tom reported. He plans to
write an article on the Music Pass trip. Cindy asked people to
coordinate with Carol so that nothing is duplicated to the Cheyenne
Edition. The Historian could become more involved. A
possibility is putting more information on the website. Another
possibility is archives or scrapbook.
Quartermaster
Mark reported. He’s
interested in being assistant scoutmaster and finishing the training for
that. So the committee needs to recruit another person for
Quartermaster. Mark can help until spring. The Scouts tried to
inventory equipment, but didn’t have enough time. Parental help
might be good.
Webmaster
Terry will work with the Scout
webmaster, Steven Karber.
Outdoor Activities/Transportation
No
report.
Eagle Scout Coordinator
No report.
Safety
No report.
Service Projects
Tom reported on Kirwan’s
project. Several Scouts put in time collecting food for Care and
Share. Tom requested that Scouts report their time to
Amber. They collected about 200 to 300 pounds of
food.
Carol received a postcard from Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado
recruiting volunteers for their project this Saturday, August 9, in
Stratton Open Space, where Jake Fox had his Eagle project, and where the
evening hike next Monday will be. A good aspect about this project
is that the minimum age is 12, so many of the Scouts can volunteer.
To check for information and whether VOC still needs volunteers, check
their website, www.voc.org.
Uniform Coordinator
No report.
Patrol Advisors
No report.
Chartered Org Rep
No report.
Chairman
Cindy wondered if the troop should
have a banner, like the Girl Scout troop had. If the troop will have
more activities where a banner would be used, it might be helpful.
Cindy asked for any other new business.
Felix asked for an
assistant scoutmaster to attend the round table. Mark
volunteered. Round table is at the LDS church at Pine and Old
Broadmoor. Entrance is by the shed. The meeting starts at 7:00
p.m. and generally lasts about one
hour.
Scoutmaster
Felix reported. He distributed a preliminary
summary of sales for the concession stand for the U.S. Senior Open.
It started slowly and increased through the week. Most of the sales
the first three days were from people parked in the church parking lot,
which was thin. Gross sales were $3183.13. Water sold
well. Unopened cases can be returned, Felix was told. A big
expense was the canopy. The health department didn’t like the open
containers of half and half. Nonreturnable items amount to about
$50. Felix plans to ask the troop committee about splitting the
proceeds. He’s thinking 70-30, 70% for the Scouts. But that
was when he thought the concession stand would make more. Scout
money would go to Scout accounts, for paying for troop activities or for
Scout equipment. Felix is asks that people give ideas to the
committee, which represents the best interests of the Scouts and the
troop. Scouts worked about 275 hours. At a guess, about $8 per
hour worked could go to the Scout accounts. Felix plans to send out
hours worked to the Scouts to verify. Felix likes to see the boys
take responsibility and earn money toward their Scout activities.
Sales opened up when the Broadmoor began to allow people to take water
inside with them. The drop off point for buses moved. Everyone
thanked Felix for his work.
Closing
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
